"The Dante Binding" (depicted on page 29), a portrait of Pella Erskine-Tulloch is also held by the Sackner Archive. The Rubicon of Breath / Ted Clausen., 1991

Commissioned for "The Beauty In Breathing" exhibition. Clausen conducted interviews of 30 adults regarding their experiences dealing with the first and last breaths (birth and death) of someone near to them. After editing, 4th grade pupils wrote them on paper. Less personal, visual metaphors were photocopied and placed with text within a hinged, wooden box whose outside surface was coated with wax, oil and red pigment as a sensual contrast to the powerful, poignant, interior messages. -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.
