This manuscript, published as a book that is also held by the Sackner Archive, was presented at the First International Symposium on Letterism. In the introduction, Failing focuses on Isou and mentions that James Joyce was his earliest inspiration. Takes up Lemaitre work when he is 24 years old and preparing his picture novel, Canailles. Scope and Contents The exhibition, "Et Tous Ils Changent le Monde" ("And All of Them Change the World"), reveals, outside of major works, an ensemble of art moments that have been perceived as essential in the course of modern and contemporary art, the avant garde artists from the beginning of the century and those of today. Marc Dachy, who proposed the theme of the exhibition, writes in his preface that this biennale was to present Dada and its spirit, connections and relationships to contemporary art. Dachy gives a broad overview with reference to specific artists participating in the exhibition and describes their relationship to art movements such as Situationism, Art Brut, Conceptual and the language-art movements of concrete and visual poetry, Fluxus and Neo-Dada. The book is arranged such that each section deals with an individual artist. This exhibition catalogue was adapted from the German edition published on the occasion of Heartfeld's exhibition at the Akadamie der Kunste zu Berlin in 1991. John Heartfield, born Helmut Herzfeld, is known primarily as an inventor of photomontage. He was a master of bitter, satiric art using images and texts from newspapers, magazines, and advertisements juxtaposing incongruous details and creating strong images. Heartfield's aim was to mobilize social energy and expose the evils and corruptions of Nazi Germany. Fleeing Germany when Hitler came to power, Heartfield worked in England creating graphic design illustrations for the publishing industry. Several designs for book covers and dust jackets by a number of writers are reproduced in the book.
