In the introduction, Failing focuses on Isou and mentions that James Joyce was his earliest inspiration. Takes up Lemaitre work when he is 24 years old and preparing his picture novel, Canailles. Poems were composed by Isou, cover and aquatints were made by DuPont with the exception of one aquatint done by Tasiv. The first 10 copies of this book contain a duplicate set of prints on Japon paper. Two of the prints are portraits of DuPont's two daughters formed from dense accumulation of letters, numbers, and hieroglyphic elements. Isou discusses Lettrisme in the final 19 pages of this book that includes 54 b&w photographs of Lettrist works of art. Page 94 depicts Lemaitre's Sculpture inimaginable" (1964), a multiple redone in 1986 in 50 copies a work which is held by the Sackner Archive.
