Biography

Lillie Friederichsen was born in Wilton, Iowa in 1893. Her parents, Rudolph and Grace Friederichsen, immigrated from Schleswig-Holstein and Hanover, Germany, respectively. Her sisters, Ella and Myra Friederichsen, were born in 1894 and 1899. By 1905, the family had moved to Marengo, Iowa, where Rudolph Friederichsen managed a greenhouse. Lillie Friederichsen graduated from Marengo High School in 1911. Each of the Friederichsen sisters attended Cornell College in Mt. Vernon for one or two years and each became a teacher. Lillie Friederichsen earned a degree from the University of Iowa in 1939.

Lillie Friederichsen taught near Council Bluffs before settling at Franklin School in Muscatine, Iowa, where she later became principal. She also served as a church organist and was active in First Baptist Church and Calgary Baptist Church, both in Muscatine. Friederichsen retired from teaching in 1963 and died in 1984.
