Biography
Jane Teaford was born on a farm near Hunter, Kansas in 1935. After graduating from Kansas State University, she worked briefly as a county extension agent before she and her husband William moved to Cedar Falls, Iowa. In 1984, Teaford ran for the Iowa House as a Democrat and won, representing District 24 (parts of the Waterloo/Cedar Falls area) from 1985-1993.
As a former legislator herself, Teaford was recruited to interview several other women who had served at the statehosue for the Hard Won, Not Done oral history of Iowa Women legislators (IWA 1278). That project was organized by board members of 50/50 in 2020, a group dedicated to equalizing gender representation in elected offices in Iowa.
